On the 25th Burberry spring/summer 2023 runway show in London was attended by a host of A-listers, including Erykah Badu, Chloe Bailey, and Normani, who sat in the front row. Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) also turned up; the rapper arrived dressed in a leather top, black hoodie, and black leggings (one of his signature pieces). The main star of the ensemble, though, were his shoes: He went to fashion week wearing socks and sandals. Flip-flops and socks are out. blinged-out flip-flops.
Kanye West is used to wearing unusual footwear. He appeared sporting the brand’s XXL rubber boots for Balenciaga’s resort show in New York City back in May. (just moments before they were shown on the runway.) He enjoys edgy silhouettes and has walked around the city in them in more informal settings. It’s not easy to walk with socks stuffed into the strap of a thong sandal, so his new socks and flip-flop ensemble makes even more of a statement and signals a serious commitment.
Fans were quick to praise it on social media with one fan saying, “The studded flip flops go unnecessarily hard,” wrote one user.
“It’s kind of a serve,” wrote another. “Right, so camp,” said another.
After ending his association with Gap just two years into a ten-year agreement, a final Yeezy Gap runway presentation is reportedly still in the works for Paris Fashion Week and is currently set for next Monday, October 3. It will follow the release of the final Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga collection last week. The store intends to carry out already scheduled projects through the end of the year, as Gap CEO Mark Breitbard reassured staff after news of the termination of the Yeezy Gap partnership broke last week.
