Yvonne Jegede Recreates Look from Iconic African Queen Video 16 Years Ago

Ahead of her 38th birthday, Yvonne Jegede decided to recreate her look the African Queen video. African Queen was the breakout hit single of Nigerian music artist Tuface Idibia – off his wildly successful debut album “Face2Face”.

The African Queen video so happens to be first music video to be played on MTV Base Africa, a new MTV channel at that time created to cater specifically to Africa’s urban music audience.

Yvonne Jegede who also made a cameo appearance with Annie Macaulay – his girlfriend turned wife in the popular music video, recreated her iconic look to mark 16 years in the Entertainment industry.

Captioning the post, the actress said ‘I came with a guitar, not the same one in the video, but something close. Same dress, Same girl, I am still at heart the same little girl with big dreams. 16years in this game and I am not about to slow down.

My birthday is tomorrow and I am super excited. Thanks to the director @uzodinmaokpechi for giving me the opportunity to be in the African Queen music video.
August 25th is tomorrow. I love my life.’

Yvonne Jegede started her movie career in 2004 when she featured in the Nollywood movie Missing Angels. But her first major camera debut was in 2005 with her appearance in the now popular music video African Queen by 2Face Idibia.

She also recreated TuFace’s look for the video as a bonus wearing the exact same outfit worn by Tuface in the video. Adding ‘This top right here is what our very own Icon Innocent Idibia wore for the African Queen music video.

The color of the top has faded but the story behind this picture means a lot to me.
Happy birthday to me in advance.’

The song, “African Queen” was later used in the soundtrack for the film Phat Girlz, which was released internationally starring Monique Angela Hicks, known professionally as Mo’Nique, an American comedian and Academy Award winning actress.
