Louis Vuitton is tapping into Y2K nostalgia to energize luxury shoppers this New Year’s Day, launching a reissue of its iconic collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, alongside a campaign featuring Zendaya.

The Louis Vuitton x Murakami collection, starring Zendaya (a house ambassador since 2023,) drops in two waves this January and March. With a line up of over 200 items expect to see in accessories like silk scarves, sunglasses, fashion jewelry, sneakers, perfume bottles, and a skateboard. Prices start at 90 euros for a notebook, skyrocketing to the ultimate collector’s piece: a custom Malle Wardrobe trunk packed with 33 Speedy bags (price on request).

To kick things off, Louis Vuitton released a campaign video (shot by Inez and Vinoodh) with Takashi Murakami, where he sends a message from Japan to Zendaya in New York, building excitement for the collection’s launch. Zendaya also appeared in collage-style images for the Louis Vuitton reedition of its Superflat Garden collection. The collection features items like the All In BB, Speedy 25, and Capucines Mini bags, surrounded by Murakami’s Superflat Garden floral motifs and Superflat Panda characters.

The original Monogram Multicolore designs, launched at the spring 2003 show by Marc Jacobs, became an instant sensation, flaunted by style icons like Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, and Jessica Simpson, as well as Regina George from “Mean Girls.” They raked in over $300 million in sales within a year. The original collaboration, which featured items like Cherry Blossom and Monogramouflage, has remained in high demand on the resale market, paving the way for a revival of the early 2000s nostalgia that a generation raised on the internet embraced.
