In honor of the 20th anniversary of her sophomore album Stripped, Christina Aguilera debuted a brand-new music video for her timeless single “Beautiful” on Wednesday, October 19.
The revamped video brings the song’s strong message right up to 2022 by showing children and teenagers struggling with the barrage of harmful social media messages, body dysmorphia, cosmetic surgery, anxiety, and suicide ideation.
Though she doesn’t appear in the new video, the singer shared her thoughts about the song’s impact on Twitter, writing, “The original ‘Beautiful’ video set out to bring awareness and a sense of compassion in the face of criticism. It still carries an important message to remember our core values outside of what’s being fed to us…to find a sense of balance and accepting ourselves for who we are.”
In the music videp Aguilera sings, a group of young women dancers do makeup while staring blankly into their ring lights, and other teenagers are engrossed in their phones.
Remember, you’re beautiful no matter what they say, words shouldn’t bring you down. Love Yourself.
