Galliano unveiled his Spring/Summer 24 Haute Couture collection for Maison Margiela, that featured dozens of models in fantastical outfits, including sheer fabric, shiny rubber, and tight corsets. However, Pat McGrath’s creation of the show’s porcelain doll skin and 18th-century watercolor makeup was what truly caught the spirit of the era.

McGrath utilized her own Pat McGrath Labs products for her artistic creation. “The makeup for the show plays with a modern take on porcelain glass skin,” said McGrath in a statement. As per press notes, McGrath and her team used Pat McGrath Labs Divine Rose Essence ($86) for skin prep and Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm ($29) using different tones for each member of the cast according to their skin tone, to intensify the glass-like sheen.

The stunning transformation also included bleached rows, pencil-thin arches, and a painterly eye in jewel tones, pastels, or charcoals. A cream blush was applied to the cheeks for a doll-like flush, while blooded red and black lips are topped in clear gloss for a surreal pout.

McGrath also created a unique waxy, glazed effect on her skin using a hyper-shiny glaze that mimics the smooth, reflective quality of glass. With models removing layers of makeup, we could only ponder what specific product was used to get this. Professional makeup artists and industry insiders speculate that the Kryolan Liquid Glass was airbrushed onto the skin multiple times to achieve this effect. However, the specific product remains to be seen or if it’s an unreleased product from her own line.
