Davide Renne, the new creative director of Moschino and former Gucci design team member, has died in Milan at the age of 46. Moschino confirmed his death after a sudden illness. Executive chairman Massimo Ferretti praised Renne for his quick-tempered nature and respect. Renne had been appointed as Moschino’s creative director in just 10 days, and he expressed excitement about the role.

Massimo Ferretti, chairman of Moschino’s parent company Aeffe SpA expressed deepest sympathies to his family and friends: “There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time. Davide joined us only a few days ago, when a sudden illness took him from us too soon. We still can’t believe what happened.” Adding “with Davide, we were working on an ambitious project, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism for the future. Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends.”
Renne joined the Kering-owned house in 2004 and worked under Frida Giannini and Alessandro Michele. He became head of womenswear design and oversaw the autumn/winter 2023 collection presented in February between Michele and Sabato De Sarno.
He was only recently elevated to the lead design role at Moschino by Ferretti, due to present his first collection for the house next February. Renne reflected on the legacy of Franco Moschino, stating that fashion cannot be explained but can only be lived because it is intimately about life and the world around us. Davide expressed gratitude to Ferretti and Moschino for giving him the keys to their playroom, stating that they are still amazed by the event.
