For her Instyle cover, the American actress and singer wore Congolese designer, Hanifa and other amazing designs from Black designers from head to toe – first of its kind.

The groundbreaking cover is the first time Instyle magazine has featured only Black designers for its cover shoot solely. From hair, makeup, jewels and shoes to the photography and clothes, everything about Zendaya’s InStyle cover was a celebration of Black excellence.

The designers featured include Jason Rembert, Christopher John Rogers, Anifa Mvuemba, Kerby Jean-Raymond, and Carly Cushnie, among many others.

One striking design from the wide array was the pleated Hanifa dress designed by Mvuemba. The Congolese designer Anifa Mvuemba earlier this year broke grounds with her 3D fashion show – in a time when fashion houses felt powerless with the ongoing COVID -19 pandemic.

The Kinashasa Dress worn by the emmy nomineee for the subscriber cover was part of the capsule collection PINK LABEL CONGO. The long pleated dress, with colors red, blue and yellow represents a powerful evocation of Congo’s national flag.

The “Euphoria” star added that she was optimistic the Instyle September issue will encourage people all over to buy from Black designers.  “I hope people are like, ‘Oh, I like that dress!’ and then go support them,” she said.

The 23 year old earned her first ever Emmy nomination this year – Best Drama Actress for her role as a teenager struggling with substance abuse in HBO’s “Euphoria.”
