On Wednesday night, Zendaya saw Serena Williams defeat world No. 2 Anett Kontaveit in the last match of her historic singles career at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. Naturally, Serena glowed in her bespoke Nike tennis outfit with its six-layer skirt under the lights as a reference to her six US Open triumphs, but her famous fan also delivered on the fashion front for spectators.

Sitting in the stands with her date: her mother, Claire Stoermer. The actress appeared to be wearing no jewelry, but she did put on a pair of gold-rimmed aviator glasses she packed to take in the action on the court, and her Panthère de Cartier watch.

In contrast to Wimbledon style, which is all about preppy tailoring, flowy summer dresses, and polka dots, Zendaya came at the US Open sporting a casual look that checked all the right boxes for effective transitional clothing.

The Euphoria actress transformed her silky, lace-trimmed slip dress into an autumnal look by pairing it with a bulky cardigan and a pair of black Lauryn boots from Aurora James’s line of footwear, Brother Vellies. Even with an enormous polo-neck, Zendaya didn’t run the risk of disappearing into the background because of the low-key atmosphere. Just take a look at that flowery dress’ dangerously high side split.
