Social Media Is Not Real: Bella Hadid Shares Tearful Mental Health Struggles

Bella Hadid got tearful with fans opening up about her mental health this week in a heart melting message reminding me and everyone else struggling with with anxiety and depression that they are not alone. Tuesday this week, the supermodel got more truthful and straightforward than ever before on Instagram, sharing a series of selfies of herself crying – explaining that she felt inspired to post after hearing friend Willow Smith speak about her own mental health battles during a video interview.

Touched by Smith’s words, Hadid felt driven to open up herself. “It made me feel a little less alone and that’s why I’d like to post this,” Hadid wrote, alongside a series of photos of herself crying. “This is pretty much my everyday, every night for a few years now. Social media is not real. For anyone struggling, please remember that. Sometimes all you’ve gotta hear is that you’re not alone. So from me to you, you’re not alone. I love you, I see you, and I hear you.”

Not afraid to show her innermost fears and feelings, went on to discuss how rocky managing mental health conditions can be and an ongoing journey – she wrote. ‘I love you, I see you, and I hear you. Self help and mental illness/chemical imbalance is not linear and it is almost like a flowing rollercoaster of obstacles… it has its ups and downs , and side to sides.

she explains. “But I want you to know, there is always light at the end of the tunnel, and the rollercoaster always comes to a complete stop at some point.” Bella adds that while the feeling of sadness and helplessness can start any day or time, its worth knowing it does get better “even if it’s a few days, weeks, or months, it does get better”.

“It took me a long time to get that in my mind, but I’ve had enough breakdowns and burnouts to know this,” she continues, “if you work hard enough on yourself, spending time alone to understand your traumas, triggers, joys, and routine, you will always be able to understand or learn more about your own pain and how to handle it. Which is all that you can ask of yourself.”

According to Mayo Clinic – Depression and anxiety are different conditions, but they commonly occur together. They also have similar treatments. the article goes on to say – Feeling down or having the blues now and then is normal. And everyone feels anxious from time to time — it’s a normal response to stressful situations. But severe or ongoing feelings of depression and anxiety can be a sign of an underlying mental health disorder.

Earlier this year, Hadid had gone off social media to focus more on her mental health telling her millions of followers she finds it increasingly hard not to be transparent on the platform, and expressing gratitude to those who read her post: “Not sure why but it feels harder and harder to not share my truth on here,” Hadid went on to say:.“Thank you for seeing me and thank you for listening. I love you.”

Hadid, who in January posted to Instagram about taking a brief break from social media to focus on her mental health, concluded her caption by saying she finds it increasingly hard not to be transparent on the platform, and expressing gratitude to those who read her post. “Not sure why but it feels harder and harder to not share my truth on here,” Hadid wrote. “Thank you for seeing me and thank you for listening. I love you.” .
