The late, great Azzedine Alaïa and Naomi Campbell were very close. The model walked every significant catwalk event Alaïa staged and donned his signature designs during significant public engagements, frequently referring to the renowned designer as “papa.” The Parisian maison is now under the new creative leadership of Pieter Mulier, and Naomi, who recently earned an honorary doctorate from UCA Epsom, demonstrated this week that she still flies the flag for it.
The 52-year-old model arrived for dinner in London looking absolutely stunning in a couture interpretation of the Canadian tuxedo. The style was finished off by a black figure-hugging tank top, a blue denim jacket with a matching midi-skirt, and a pair of Alaïa black leather cut-out sandals. Oversized black sunglasses and a dark purple Hermès Kelly bag were Naomi’s accessories.
Clearly, whomever claimed double denim wasn’t fashionable hasn’t seen this particular ensemble created by Mulier for Alaï. A contentious double denim outfit can be made dinner party suitable by adding some statement accessories, like Naomi.
