The activist made a statement in a sequin-covered hooded gown by Ralph Lauren Collection, but her sparkling accessories may have been the most eye-catching aspect of her ensemble. She attended the event with her husband Asser Malik. Yousafzai accessorized her look with jewelry by Fred Leighton that was once possessed by famed 20th-century campaigner Queen Soraya Tarzi of Afghanistan. Yousafzai chose a 19th-century diamond navette-shaped ring and diamond briolette pendant earrings in platinum for tonight’s star-studded celebration. She also wore a Santi Jewels Emerald Floral Ring.

Queen Soraya was a driving force behind the education and emancipation of women in Afghanistan, founding the country’s first magazine and establishing the first primary school.

Malik, next to her, looked dapper in a classic black suit, white shirt, black bow tie, and black loafers.

Yousafzai was invited to the second annual South Asian Excellence pre-Oscars celebration at Paramount Pictures Studios last week, and she attended that event before traveling to Los Angeles for the 95th Academy Awards. She also went to the Oscar Nominees Luncheon in February.

When Yousafzai won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 at the age of 17, she instantly became a household figure around the world. She co-produced the documentary short Stranger at the Gate, which is up for an Oscar Award tonight. The Martha Mitchell Effect, Haulout, How Do You Measure a Year?, and The Elephant Whisperers are other contenders for the critically acclaimed short film. Yousafzai was the focus of the Oscar-nominated film He Named Me Malala in 2015.
