Kylie Jenner’s Micro Miniskirt Revives a Controversial Noughties Trend

Celebrities like Kylie Jenner have kept the whale tail trend going strong. The contentious early-aughts trend of exposing the Y-shaped section of a thong over the waistline of your bottoms has been revived by celebs including the reality TV star.

Dripping in Jacquemus in a fresh carousel of photographs posted to her Instagram, wearing look 15 from the satirical French label’s Spring 2023 collection.

Jenner mimicked the model’s outfit by donning a translucent top with a crisscross cord accent over her exposed midriff, a stretchy patterned miniskirt in contrast with visible thong detailing, and even matching accessories like the huge faux-fur muppet bag and fuzzy acid-yellow heels. The entire combination came from the line’s Raffia collection, but Jenner elected to forgo the organic, natural inspiration in favor of the man-made, Y2K-approved ensemble.

Last month, Kylie made a string of astounding public appearances at Paris Fashion Week. She opened the couture festivities at the Schiaparelli show wearing a body-con, ruched velvet gown with an artificial but hauntingly hyper-realistic lion head at the bust. She later wore an ensemble that combined workday for the nine to five with BDSM lingerie for a night out in the city. Three thick belts held together a bodycon blazer dress with ab-baring splits under her breast for the bondage-inspired appearance. Last but not least, Jenner emulated Old Hollywood glitz during the Jean Paul Gaultier show in a color-blocked corset gown.
