The 2nd Annual Academy Museum Gala drew a A-listers of Hollywood on Saturday night in Los Angeles. The star-studded event of the museum’s efforts to preserve cinema history saw the stars march down the red carpet while dressed to the nines. However, the 21-year-old model Kaia Gerber, a fashion icon in her own right, had one of the evening’s most eye-catching outfits.
The sultry black Alaïa ensemble, which features of a draped skirt and a transparent turtleneck, had its runway premiere in July under the direction of the brand’s creative director Pieter Mulier for the spring/summer 2023 collection. With the help of stylist Danielle Goldberg, Gerber opted to go jewelry-free and go with a straightforward wavy blowout for her hairstyle. However, Gerber’s eerie similarity to another Alaïa influence from decades past—her mother, Cindy Crawford—was just as stunning as her tastefully simple take on the style.
Having attended the opening of an exhibition honoring Alaïa’s work in Paris together the previous year, Crawford and Gerber also evidently have a common admiration for Alaïa.
