Tyla exchanged water for sand at the 2024 Met Gala. She graced the steps in a full body-cast gown by Balmain, inspired by the theme “The Garden of Time” featuring a sand-based design, as a tribute to the sands of time.

Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s creative director, was inspired by the concept of ephemerality in Tyla’s dress. He tells Vogue, he aimed to redefine boundaries and transform a transient material into an everlasting masterpiece. Rousteing was thrilled with the end result, as he was inspired by the idea of sculpting a garment from sand.

The strapless dress in sand colors with micro crystal studs had an organza mermaid train that flared out, enhancing herlook. She paired with a silver diamond choker and hourglass-shaped clutch. Tyla also opted for a sleek, layered bob and switched out her signature curls for a layered look.

No doubt Tyla’s highly anticipated debut at the prestigious Met Gala, effortlessly establishes herself as a formidable force in the fashion world. Despite it being her first appearance at this illustrious event, the South African singer astounds onlookers with her impeccable style and innate fashion sense. As if to solidify her sartorial prowess, Tyla mesmerized the audience at the 2024 Grammys, where she graces the red carpet in a breathtaking pistachio-hued creation by none other than Atelier Versace.
