Balenciaga showcased its 2025 men’s and women’s collections in Shanghai, marking the first time the French fashion house has staged a runway in the Chinese city.

Held at the Museum of Art Pudong—designed by French architect Jean Nouvel—the French house came prepared for the rain, with a makeshift shield for front-row attendees, including actresses Sophie Marceau and Michelle Yeoh, provided using a large number of black umbrellas and plastic ponchos. The show took place on a white granite walkway overlooking the Pudong skyline, with two towers showcasing the Balenciaga logo. The misty weather added a touch of “Shanghai noir” to the atmosphere, in line with Demna’s vision.

Demna’s latest collection in Shanghai perfectly captured the rebellious spirit of punk with a nod to Balenciaga’s iconic style and eternal glamour. From hourglass skirts to billowy blouses, open-toe heels paired with white tube socks, and ripped-fabric pantaboots, every piece exuded a fearless and audacious vibe. Cropped trenches and faux-fur coats added a touch of extravagance while maintaining an effortlessly cool attitude. Demna’s impeccable tailoring and sharp lines brought a hint of edge to the collection, solidifying its status as a standout in his impressive portfolio.

The most popular item was a triple-layer brick-size flatform boot inspired by skyscrapers. The finale featured couture looks made with upcycled materials, including a pink gown, a sleeveless draped dress, and a black velvet jewelry display dress for luxury-conscious attendees.
