The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) held its 2024 gala at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, featuring Hollywood stars like Katie Holmes and Blake Lively, as well as celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Paris Hilton, Nara Smith, and Ella Emhoff in their finest outfits.
Erykah Badu was the Fashion Icon award recipient, followed by photographers Annie Leibovitz, Michael Kors, Daniel Roseberry, Hamish Bowles, Stephen Burrows, and Coachtopia. The late Isabel Toledo was honored with the Board of Directors Tribute Award in her honor. The competition was among top American brands, with Luar’s Raul Lopez being named Accessories Designer of the Year, Henry Zankov of Zankov being named Emerging Designer of the Year, and Willy Chavarria winning Menswear Designer of the Year for the second consecutive year. Chavarria dedicated the award to those who helped spread his message of inclusivity and love. He urged the crowd to speak with their friends and family ahead of the upcoming presidential election, stating that diversity in humanity makes us stronger.
The final award, Women’s Designer of the Year, was given to Diotima’s Rachel Scott, who expressed gratitude to the New York fashion community for supporting her small, independent brand and thanked the women artisans in her native Jamaica who create her intricate crochet designs. The event highlighted the importance of inclusivity and love in the fashion industry and the need to address the concerns of diverse individuals.
