Due to the ongoing pandemic, health guidelines have now been put in place. What this means is that look books, livestreams and short films have replaced in-person runway shows. Designer Claude Kameni, presented her new collection ‘The Royal Empire’ on NYFW.com.

According to Claude Kameni “The Royal Empire Collection draws inspiration from the upcoming Coming America movie. The collection’s regal silhouettes are influenced by beautiful queens with its detailed constructions, bold and intricate prints and it also presents an exciting and much-needed view into a world where African print meets couture.”

The collection was modelled by notable fashion influencers including Nyakim Gatwech – the Queen of the dark (a South Sudanese descent African American model who’s teaching people not to be afraid of the their skin color), Achieng Agutu (“Confidence Queen” With Style to Match) and the hunky Sir Chidi like to showcase style, fitness and travel.

A standout was a purple high slit gown – QUEEN KERLATANA which features a plunging neckline.

The self-taught 26-year-old Cameroonian designer made waves with her label Lavie by CK’s ready-to-wear spring 2021 collection dubbed Mind Your Business, featuring colorful, bold prints inspired by her heritage and modeled by an all-Black cast of models.
