Archival vintage is something Kylie Jenner enjoys. Do you recall the super-rare Comme des Garçons hand top from 2007 that she wore to the public this summer? The beauty tycoon and TV queen showed off her love of vintage fashion at the 2022 CFDA Awards in New York City by digging up a stunning vintage ’90s gown. It’s a runway garment from the autumn 1999 collection of a well-known French designer.
The semi-sheer, pleated, one-shouldered gown worn by Jenner, according to her stylist Mackenzie Grandquist, is from Thierry Mugler’s autumn 1999 collection and features a matching sleeve and a high-slit black skirt. Even now, Jenner wears that architectural, waist-cinching silhouette, which was a trademark of Mugler’s throughout the ’90s and beyond. Jenner seems to fit in perfectly because she is drawn to more bodycon styles. She wore it just as it did on the catwalk, with the exception that she took off the enormous diamond necklace to highlight the distinctive neckline. And by wearing it in 2022, she demonstrated that a good, well-cut design can endure and steal people’s breath away regardless of the era.
