A prime illustration of how Kendall Jenner’s style frequently diverges significantly from that of her sisters is her appearance at the 2022 CFDA Awards on the 7th of November. Kendall opted for a somewhat more subdued appearance in a very basic white sequin dress by Khaite, while Kim, Kylie, and Khloé all chose figure-hugging gowns that were see-through, featured high slits, and allowed for some under-boob cleavage. Although Kendall Jenner has certainly experimented with body-hugging clothing throughout the years, it has never been her go-to. Her sisters frequently choose these styles.
Jenner opted for a natural makeup look that included an earth-tone eyeshadow, a glossy nude lip, a dab of blush, and a touch of mascara. Her hair was styled with a subtle wave and split down the middle.
However, Jenner stepped out in a dress that was out of character for the model and appeared to have been plucked straight from Kim’s closet last week.
On Thursday in Los Angeles, Kendall Jenner threw a celebration for the opening of Jean Paul Gaultier on Fwrd. Kendall Jenner was appointed as Fwrd’s new creative director in late 2021. In her position, she works on brand activations and marketing as well as curating her own edit of designers for people to purchase from.
Naturally, Jenner had to wear Gaultier for the occasion, and she had a piece especially made for it. Jenner wore an off-the-shoulder figure-hugging long-sleeve dress with the designer’s well-known op-art pattern that emphasized her curves with heat map coloring and added adornment for an additional pop. The combination of the two was rather striking because it’s unusual to see Jenner in anything that tight and even more so with so much color.
Even though it is a personalized design, we have seen variations of it previously, including on Kendall Jenner’s sister. On a vacation to Paris in February 2020, Kim donned a vintage replica of the dress from Gaultier’s autumn 1995 runway. She appeared at the People’s Choice Awards in 2018 wearing a different, less vivid op-art JPG print.
Even though Gaultier first introduced the op-art print in his Cyber Collection over thirty years ago, the Kardashians have been largely responsible for the trend’s recent comeback. Additionally contributing to its recent appeal was Gaultier’s choice to entirely revitalize his brand, collaborate with fresh talent, and reissue items from the Cyber Collection. They continue to be must-have items right now and can be seen on some of the greatest names in fashion, like Dua Lipa, Cardi B, and most recently, Kendall Jenner.
