Gucci spring/summer 2023. Filippo Fior
There were 68 sets of identical twins in the spring/summer 2023 Gucci show, Twinsburg (yes, we have proof). Creative director Alessandro Michele praised his mother Eralda and her twin sister Giuliana before a performance honoring them. Eralda and Giuliana are also known as his mother.
“Two extraordinary women who made their twinship the ultimate seal of their existence,” he said in the show notes. “They lived in the same body. They dressed and combed their hair in the same way. It’s exactly the impossibility of the perfectly identical that nourishes the magic of twins.”
With a mirrored wall along the middle dividing each set of twins, they each separately and identically approached the stage. The wall was then erected for the unanticipated grand finale, which gathered the model pairings in the middle to walk down the runway together for maximum effect.
The casting was undoubtedly the result of months of planning and much effort. The fittings were probably just as tedious because each pair of models wore custom-made clothes that were exactly suited to them.
