Carrie Bradshaw, Bratz dolls, and films such as Mean Girls, The Matrix, Legally Blonde and Coyote Ugly exposed Y2K styling to audiences, creating a distinctive aesthetic that is still loved today.

Since its most recent adoption by Generation Z, the craze has been taken a step further by combining later fashion eras, such as the 1990s streetwear-heavy hip-hop look and the 2010s hipster movement.
