When Katy Perry attended the Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday night in double denim, she was clearly taking a page out of Britney and Justin’s playbook.
The singer wore an off-the-shoulder corseted top and wide pants by Porto-based design team Marques’Almeida, which featured an oversized bow at the waist. Perry completed her ’00s-inspired red carpet ensemble with a pearl and diamond Mikimoto necklace and a pair of sparkling heels.
The pop star has worn denim on the red carpet before; at the 2014 VMA Awards, she wore a Versace patchwork dress reminiscent of Britney Spears, and rapper Riff Raff dressed as her Justin for the evening in all-denim ensembles.
Because Marques’Almeida uses organic, recyclable, and biodegradable materials in its collections, Perry’s denim ensemble this time around also had great environmental merits. All of its denim is ozone cleaned, a process that utilizes 50% less water and chemicals than standard techniques. An environmentally conscious style with a nod to the past? We concur.
