This winter, Jenna Ortega spearheaded the Wednesday-core movement in fashion and makeup. Nothing feels more appropriate as we reflect on the year’s empowering womenswear trends—exposed lingerie, oversized everything, Barbiecore, and short miniskirts.
In her role as the star of Wednesday, a supernatural comedy horror series on Netflix based on the life of Charles Addams’ cartoon character Wednesday Addams, Ortega perfectly captures the eccentric young woman with the black braids, somber look, heavy makeup, and love of the macabre. The actress has maintained her portrayal of Wednesday even when she is not acting, bringing her gothic look to the streets and making it appear incredibly elegant.
Ortega has displayed a variety of gothic glam looks throughout her press tour for the performance. Below are some of her finest.

At the second annual festival of Latino film and television hosted by the Critics Choice Association at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, Ortega looked totally superb. In a sheer black one-shoulder gown with exposed undergarments underneath, the actress channeled her inner Wednesday to the gala. She also wore platform heels. She wore a large diamond ring, a blood-red manicure, and a sloppy updo with strands framing her face as accessories.

In a black, asymmetrical Dion Lee dress with a prominent leg split and underboob cutouts that were covered in a sheer fabric adorned with lace for a Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance, Ortega gave her character’s gothic aesthetic a seductive twist. She accentuated the bold dress with a pair of black platform Christian Louboutin heels and added contrast with a pointed red manicure and pedicure as well as a red lip. She wore Ananya and Grace Lee jewelry and had a lovely, wavy hairstyle.

The series’ global premiere, which took place at the Hollywood Legion Theater in Los Angeles last month, saw her showcase one of her most Wednesday-core styles. In a black crinkled gown with an exposed breast, lace-trimmed cutouts, and a high leg split, Ortega made a strong impression for the event. She wore a black veil, silver jewelry, and stiletto platform shoes with the outfit. She went for straight hair, dark eyes, and pointed black chrome nails for her appearance.

Ortega sported a sharp black suit and tie for a discussion on Good Morning America, as well as a matching trench coat, silver platform heels, a maroon purse, and pearl drop earrings.

She chose a sheer black dress by Dolce & Gabbana with white sleeves and a collar to wear for an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She wore it over a silky black bodysuit and fastened it with a big metallic silver belt. She completed the ensemble with silver jewelry by Grace Lee and KATKIM, glossy black platform shoes, and a dark cat eye.
