Today, it was revealed that Peter Do will be parting ways with Helmut Lang, as confirmed by both the brand and the designer.
“I want to express my gratitude to my Helmut Lang team who have been integral in supporting my vision,” said Do in a statement. “It’s been an incredible journey to be tasked to carry on the legacy of Helmut Lang.” Kazumi Yanai, the chairman of Helmut Lang, said: “I want to express my deepest gratitude to Peter for his exceptional creative leadership and vision and wish him continued success in his future endeavors.”
Adding, “Peter Do joined Helmut Lang in 2023, bringing a fresh perspective and revitalizing the brand for a new generation. He reinforced the brand’s reputation for pushing boundaries while honoring its minimalist roots.”
Do debuted with the cult label in 2023, unveiling his inaugural collection at New York Fashion Week for spring/summer 2024. While his second show in February garnered more positive feedback, it failed to fully encapsulate the essence and vision of the brand’s enigmatic founder.
Born in Vietnam, Do moved to Philadelphia at 14 and studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He won the 2014 LVMH Graduate Prize and gained experience at Celine and Derek Lam before founding his own brand in 2018, which he still oversees today.
Helmut Lang, founded in 1986 by Austrian designer Helmut Lang, has struggled to reboot the label, skipped fashion week in September, and has not shown a spring/summer 2025 collection.
