Burberry and Harrods, both passionate about takeovers, have partnered (to celebrate its 175th anniversary) for a month-long celebration in Knightsbridge, UK, as seen in the recent City activations under the Streets initiative and the recent Dior Christmas 2022 mega-takeover, the polka-dotted Yayoi Kusama and Louis Vuitton dreamscape in 2023.

The takeover includes transforming its luxury department store Harrods into a “knight blue” starting Thursday to the 29th. Meaning, the store will undergo a significant transformation from its recent pink color scheme in a partnership with Valentino. It will also include doormen wearing knight-blue Burberry Check pieces instead of their traditional bottle-green uniforms.

“It all started with the archives,” Lee tells Vogue. “Burberry has such a rich heritage with exploration and the outdoors, which felt really fitting with this collaboration with Harrods – another iconic British name that has been around since the mid-1800s.”

Reimagined tents (green exterior awnings transformed into peeled-back tent canopies in a seasonal Burberry check,) modeled after early 20th-century tent canopies will be seen at Burberry Check at Harrods, and those who enjoyed Burberry’s earlier pop-up at Norman’s Cafe can now have flapjacks and Chelsea buns from a food truck. Classic British trekking equipment, bottle openers, hot water bottles, and Kendal Mint Cake are all available at Burberry’s Camping Corner.

There’s a special edition orienteering map of Knightsbridge for anyone who enjoy venturing outside the city. In two new pop-up shops, an exclusive 40-piece collection with ponchos, bags by Chess and Rocking Horse, and a houndstooth check tracksuit by Barry Keoghan is on show. Burberry and Harrods also intend to rule the virtual world using Roblox, where the Harrods facade has been recreated for the first time. This marks Burberry’s second experience on Roblox(same platform that allowed the Burberry Lola purse to be “stocked” in 2022), and they are also partnering with Snapchat to offer a virtual lens and an in-store digital experience for visitors to interact with the Burberry world.
