Penélope Cruz will almost certainly be wearing Chanel if you see her at an event. A black hair bow, one of the maison’s distinctive accessories, was required for a recent press event in Paris for her new movie, L’immensità. In order to complete her retro-inspired bouffant hairstyle and accentuate her dramatic winged eyeliner, Penélope used the ribbon as a hairband.
Her incredibly short bouclé tweed minidress, which was belted at the waist, received a fun finishing touch in the form of the bow. Cruz also wore diamond-studded drop earrings with the brand’s signature double C symbol and a round purse made of the signature quilted lambskin leather.
Guess what? The bows are not new – the late Karl Lagerfeld, who served as creative director of Chanel, was fond of the adornment, and his successor, Virginie Viard, has continued the trend in her shows. The brand’s founder, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, was also fond of bows. They were put to the models’ braided mohawks for a punk touch for her autumn/winter 2021 couture collection. Though more traditional, Penélope’s interpretation was nonetheless intriguing.
