Grown-ish Yara Shahidi To Star As Tinker Bell in Peter Pan remake

The Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi has been cast as the new Tinkerbell in Disney’s live action Peter Pan remake. According to Entertainment Weekly, Yara joins the list of actors Jude Law (Captain Hook), Alexander Molony (Peter Pan), and Ever Anderson (Wendy) in the David Lowery-directed film.


This comes as  Halle Bailey being cast in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid – definitely a year black girl magic. Making it the first time a person of colour has filled the role that has so far featured exclusively white actresses.

 Revealed via DEADLINE earlier this week, the movie is expected to have a theatrical release, as opposed to heading directly to Disney+. Variety reports that Lowery is co-writing the script alongside Toby Halbrooks, with Jim Whitaker set to produce. Aside that few details is known presently about the onscreen adaptation.

Only 20 years old, Shahidi has become as well known for her political activism as she has for her acting. She is the founder of the Eighteen x 18 organisation, which encourages young people to become more engaged with politics. Michelle Obama wrote her letter of recommendation for admission to Harvard.

She plays the role of Zoey on the critically acclaimed ABC comedy series grown-ish. Earlier this year she launched a production company with her business partner and mother, Keri Shade as part of a deal called the 7th Sun.
