Kenneth Gyang’s Òlòturé is steadily gathering the international recognition it so deserves as it’s listed among the top 10 movies on Netflix in the world – the first Nigerian directed film to attain this level. Oloture, is a Nigerian film inspired by a 2014 trafficking investigation by PREMIUM TIMES which was virtually premiered over the weekend along with a Netflix Watch Party.

Based on a real life exposé by investigative reporter, Tobore Ovuorie, the movie reveals the harsh and complex realities women and girls face. Òlòturé addresses the dreadful world of pimps, sex, prostitution rape, and human trafficking.

The movie is currently trending on NETFLIX in Nigeria, Morocco, Ukraine, France, Portugal and South Africa and other countries including Brazil, Oman, Switzerland, Qatar, Romania, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Russia – stars Sharon Ooja as Ehi, Beverly Osu, Segun Arinze, Omoni Oboli, Yemi Solade and Wofai Fada.

At the time of  the PREMIUM TIMES’ article titled  ‘Inside Nigeria’s Ruthless Human Trafficking Mafia’ released to the public in 2014, Tobore passed through a great ordeal including a loss of a dear friend while uncovering the plight of trafficked women in the country which had become a a multi-billion dollar criminal enterprise.

In recent times prior to the release of the article Nigeria had indeed become a source, transit, and destination country for women and children subjected to trafficking in persons including forced labor and forced prostitution. Òlòturé does justice by telling the tale and painting the world surrounding trafficking to real life.

The movie first premiered on October 31, 2019 in Tunisia, before screening at Carthage Film Festival. Netflix acquired distribution rights to the film in September 2020
