Prepare to defy gravity—again. The Land of Oz will shimmer brighter than ever in Wicked: For Good, the grand finale of Jon M. Chu’s ambitious two-part cinematic reimagining of Broadway’s most beloved modern classic. Following Wicked: Part One, which soars into theaters this November, the second installment is set to land exactly one year later: November 21, 2025. And if Part One is the emerald-studded overture, For Good promises to be its emotionally charged crescendo.

Shot back-to-back with its predecessor, Wicked: For Good continues the tale of Elphaba and Glinda—not just as witches on opposing paths, but as women navigating power, politics, legacy, and heartbreak in a world built on illusion. For those who’ve long held the musical close, this is Oz like you’ve never seen it: more decadent, more dangerous, more daring.

A Tale Too Epic for Just One Film

It’s no secret that director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights) made the bold—and rather brilliant—choice to split Wicked into two films. “We realized the story demanded more space to breathe,” Chu explained when announcing the duology. “To honor its scale and soul, we needed room for every song, every turn, every spell.”

Composer Stephen Schwartz concurred, citing “Defying Gravity” as the natural act break. “It was written to bring the curtain down,” he noted, adding that anything following it without pause felt “hugely anticlimactic.” And so, the spell was cast: Wicked would unfold across two theatrical chapters, each its own cinematic spectacle.

The Return of the Queens of Oz

Reprising their headline-making roles, Cynthia Erivo (as the defiant and gifted Elphaba) and Ariana Grande (as the dazzling and conflicted Glinda) return to finish the story they began in Part One. Their on-screen alchemy—already teased in behind-the-scenes glimpses and the trailer—has ignited early awards buzz and fandom frenzy alike.

Also returning to the magical ensemble are:

  • Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, the romantic and rebellious prince caught between two worlds
  • Michelle Yeoh as the severe yet enigmatic Madame Morrible
  • Jeff Goldblum as the manipulative, larger-than-life Wizard of Oz
  • Ethan Slater as Boq, now facing the consequences of heartbreak and transformation
  • Marissa Bode, making history as Nessarose in her screen debut

And yes—Dorothy has finally arrived in Oz. Though her casting remains a tantalizing mystery, her presence in For Good ties the Wicked universe directly into the mythos of The Wizard of Oz, layering its legacy with new nuance and emotional weight.

A First Glimpse at What’s to Come

The first trailer for Wicked: For Good, unveiled at CinemaCon 2025, left audiences enchanted. In just a few minutes, fans witnessed Elphaba in exile at Kiamo Ko, Glinda stepping into a life of polished pageantry, and the Wizard unleashing his infamous directive: send Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Lion to retrieve the Witch’s broom.

The visuals? Opulent. The stakes? Higher than ever. From cathedral-like Emerald City halls to enchanted forests drenched in shadow and sparkle, every frame feels laced with both grandeur and intimacy.

What We Know About the Plot

While Part One ends with “Defying Gravity”—Elphaba’s triumphant declaration of rebellion—For Good picks up with the personal and political fallout of that fateful flight. Glinda, now aligned with the Wizard’s regime, begins to question the cost of conformity, while Elphaba becomes both fugitive and legend, hunted across Oz.

Audiences can expect a deeper dive into the power structures that govern the Emerald City, the disinformation war waged by the Wizard, and the complex web of betrayal, redemption, and sacrifice that has long made Wicked so emotionally resonant.

Crucially, For Good will weave in the iconic Wizard of Oz narrative, reimagining Dorothy’s arrival not as the beginning of the story—but its final, devastating complication.

A Legacy Enchanted

For nearly two decades, Wicked has enchanted audiences with its radically empathetic retelling of good, evil, and everything in between. With For Good, the franchise steps into cinematic immortality—armed with glittering costumes, thunderous ballads, and performances designed to linger long after the curtain falls.

As Glinda and Elphaba prepare to take their final bows on the silver screen, one thing is certain: in 2025, the Wizard won’t be the only one watching. The whole world will be.

Mark your calendars.
Wicked: For Good arrives in theaters November 21, 2025. This time, you’ll believe a witch can fly—and cry.
