We are delighted to inform you, dear readers, that the acclaimed Netflix series Bridgerton will indeed return for a third (and fourth!) season. Lady Whistledown is dispensing the most recent information on everyone’s secrets even though many people are still unsure of who she is. She has been keeping a tight eye on London’s affluent bachelors and bachelorettes as they look for love at lavish balls over the course of two seasons. However, they aren’t the only ones who need to be concerned about Lady Whistledown’s close surveillance; their families are also the subject of her daily gossip piece.
So, if you’ve seen the first two seasons of Bridgerton and are curious about what happens next, we’ve got you covered. From the characters and narrative to the official release date, here’s everything we know about Bridgerton season 3.
To sum it up:
With a focus on Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton’s slow-burning relationship as well as the early years of Kate and Anthony Bridgerton’s marriage, the Shonda Rhimes hit will return in all its candy-colored, feather-strewn splendor.
Is Season 3 of Bridgerton based on a book?
Yes. The Duke and I, the first book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, served as the inspiration for the first season of the Netflix phenomenon, which focused on Daphne and Simon’s romance. Season two, which followed Anthony and Kate, was inspired by The Viscount Who Loved Me, the second book in the series. Fans believed that season three would follow Benedict’s journey to marriage success as described in the third book, An Offer From a Gentleman, however Variety announced on May 15 that this would not be the case. Instead, as Quinn did in the fourth novel, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, the program would go ahead to examine Colin and Penelope’s romance in more detail.
In addition to confirming the information, Nicola Coughlan said, “I have kept that secret since two weeks into season two,” at a Netflix panel discussion in Hollywood.
Shortly after the event, Coughlan and her co-star, Colin’s Luke Newton, shared further information with Netflix, including the rationale behind the altered running sequence.
“I feel like if you see Penelope fawning over this boy for another season, you’ll be like, ‘Get it together! Come on, move on and get over it,’” said Coughlan. Of what she knows of their story so far, she said, “I think people are going to be really obsessed. I think book fans are going to be happy.”
The season two finale, in which Penelope overheard Colin telling a group of friends that he would never conceive of dating her, naturally caused a lot of people to dislike Colin, Newton acknowledged. Colin’s remark, in his opinion, was only a “throwaway,” but what counts most, he claims, is “how significant it is to the audience and how important it is to Penelope.” The press release continues, “It’s possible Colin’s willful obliviousness is the biggest obstacle to romance heading into season three. After all, Colin isn’t currently pursuing anyone at all.”
When Colin returns from his travels and starts to view Penelope in a whole different light in Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, they are unable to get together because of the significant secrets they are keeping from one another. While it’s extremely clear that Colin will learn Penelope is Lady Whistledown in season three, just as Eloise has, it’s also possible that other portions of the story will diverge from the original. After all, unlike in Quinn’s novels, where readers are kept in the dark until the fourth book, in the show Colin returns to the Ton in the second episode of season two, and Lady Whistledown’s identity is revealed at the end of season one.
Season three’s log line is as follows:
“Penelope has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.
“Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realise that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly. Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise, who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the Ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.”
Who will return for season 3?
The majority of the Bridgerton siblings will likely return to our screens in Season 3, which follows the fourth novel in the series. Nicola and Luke reprise their roles as Penelope and Colin, respectively. Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne), Jonathan Bailey (Anthony), Claudia Jessie (Eloise), and Luke Thompson (Benedict) all return for season 3 as well, as does Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmel), Lady Agatha Danbury (Adjoa Andoh), and Queen Charlotte, of course (Golda Rosheuvel).
More positive news? Unlike the dashing Duke of Hastings, played by Regé-Jean Page, who did not return for season two despite being a popular favorite following the show’s premiere. As the Sharma sisters, Charithra Chandran and Simone Ashley joined the cast in season 2. On April 21, Simone Ashley announced that she will be returning for season 3 in the role of Viscountess Bridgerton. When Simone was asked if she would return to the fourth season of Sex Education (which she has appeared in since 2019) during an appearance with ITV’s This Morning, she stated that she was quitting to focus on Bridgerton. She said, “I’m a Bridgerton girl now.
Although it’s unknown if Charithra will play Edwina again, both she and Simone have expressed a desire to return for the future season.
Simone expressed her “great excitement” to see Kate and Anthony’s post-marriage lives to Entertainment Weekly.
“No drama, no scandals — well, season 2 scandals anyway. I’m super excited to see them super loved up and happy in that sense,” she said.
“I love the cast and crew so much, so I’d be so open to coming back,” Charithtra told Entertainment Weekly. “I haven’t been told anything as of yet. It’s not my decision. And what I can hope for Edwina is of course I hope she finds love with someone wonderful one day. But my priority, at least in the short term, is for her to find adventure and excitement.”
Has season 3 started filming?
Yes, Bridgerton’s third season has begun in earnest. On August 5, Jonathan Bailey, Hannah Dodd, and Simone Ashley were seen filming in South London. The scene’s background is unknown, despite the fact that the Bridgerton household backdrop and Francesca and Kate’s Regency-inspired dresses suggest some form of family reunion.
In a video posted on July 20 by the official Instagram account, several of our favorite Regency-era characters, including Anthony, Lady Danbury, Benedict, Lady Violet, Eloise, Will Mondrich, Brimsley, Queen Charlotte, and of course Colin and Penelope, announced the really happy news. Before switching their hands over to reveal three fingers, the actors flashed two fingers at the camera. The video montage concluded with Luke Newton as Colin and Nicola Coughlan as Penelope riding in a carriage.
“I spy the makings of a new social season. By the looks of things, it would seem the third installment of Bridgerton is officially underway,” the caption reads.
According to the video we’ve seen from this new season, Colin certainly got a main-character glow-up, and the hunger is real, according to fans on TikTok. Using the description, @Kimad21 made a popular TikTok.
Do we know the titles of any of the episodes?
We actually do. In a “Bridgerton Cast Portrait Challenge” video that was posted by Netflix on September 24, Luke (Colin) and Claudia (Eloise) create pictures of one another while talking about the next season. Toward the end, Nicola (Penelope) shows up to deliver Lady Whistledown’s opening monologue for season 3 and the first episode title.
“Dearest gentle reader, we’ve been apart for far too long. At last, London’s smart set has made its return, and so too has this author. As the season begins, the question on everyone’s mind is, of course, which newly-minted debutante will shine the brightest? The crop this year appears to be rather dazzling indeed. Unfortunately, not every young lady can attract the light,” the premiere episode, titled “Out of the Shadows,” begins.
For Bridgerton season 3, who will be joining the cast?
Hannah Dodd will take over for Ruby Stokes in the character of Francesca Bridgerton, it was announced on May 12 (Stokes is departing the program to feature in Netflix’s Lockwood & Co). For anyone who binge-watched Anatomy of a Scandal, Dodd will be a familiar face because she portrayed Sienna Miller’s younger self as she navigated Oxford University in the 1990s. Then, on July 20, word spread that three other cast members had joined the fight: Marcus Anderson, played by Daniel Francis, is a flamboyant presence that brightens each space he enters, drawing the attention of certain matriarchs in the Ton and the wrath of others.
In addition to James Phoon’s portrayal of Harry Dankworth, who lacks wit and intelligence but more than makes up for it with his serious good looks, Sam Phillips plays the eccentric Lord Debling, who will be in high demand from young women this season due to his wealth and title.
Hannah New, well known for her role as corseted bar owner Eleanor Guthrie in Starz’s adventure epic Black Sails, was cast as Lady Tilley Arnold on October 14. She is a fiery woman who lost her marriage at a young age and now enjoys the benefits and influence that come with running her ex-estate. husband’s She is financially independent and has complete sexual freedom, allowing her to live life as she chooses. It’s important to watch for announcements since further improvements are anticipated in the upcoming weeks and months.
Who will be behind the camera for Bridgerton season 3?
In the background, there will also be adjustments. Chris Van Dusen will step down as showrunner after season three, and will be replaced by Jess Brownell, who has written episodes of Scandal, Inventing Anna, and Bridgerton in the past. The latter said, in an interview with the Radio Times in March, “Bridgerton will always have a special place in my heart and I think I did what I set out to do,” the latter told the Radio Times in an interview in March. “The fact that this show has become Netflix’s biggest English-language series ever is something I’m incredibly proud of. But, at the end of the day, it was time for me to move on.”
However, the veteran Bridgerton executive producer will continue to work on the program with Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, and Tom Verica, so it’s doubtful that season three will see a big shift in the show’s tone or visual presentation.
Does Bridgerton season 3 have a release date?
The next season of Bridgerton, which is presently in production, is scheduled to premiere in 2023.
What is currently known about Bridgerton season 4?
Naturally, Bridgerton has already been given a fourth season on Netflix, but it’s not yet clear what it will be about. The accent will be on the creative Benedict, who falls for Sophie Beckett, the daughter of an earl who has been kept away from the Ton and made to serve as a housemaid by her ruthless stepmother, if it does utilize the third novel, An Offer From a Gentleman, as its inspiration. Sophie and Benedict had a Cinderella-meets-Romeo-and-Juliet scene after Sophie sneaks into Lady Bridgerton’s annual masquerade ball, with Benedict being enamored by the masked beauty. Later, when she runs away, he swears to find her by any means necessary.
How many seasons will there be in total of Bridgerton?
With each season focused on a different brother, Bridgerton is scheduled to last for eight seasons. The series should ostensibly continue on to Eloise, Francesca, Hyacinth, and Gregory after Daphne, Anthony, Colin, and Benedict, giving each of them their own happy endings.
Is there going to be a Bridgerton spin-off?
Yes, and it will focus on a young Queen Charlotte as she travels to London at the age of 17 to wed King George. India Amarteifio will play the part of the young Queen Charlotte (Corey Mylchreest). The eight-part prequel, which Rhimes herself wrote, will follow the couple as they fall head over heels and change the nation.
