Following the release of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, fans single out Birdie Jay, played by Kate Hudson, as one of the movie’s best characters.
Our first glimpse of Birdie (played by Kate Hudson) she is hosting a party while the entire world is under a lockdown, while her friends are masked, alone, and dressed in sweats. And this is no ordinary party; her enormous New York City apartment is crammed to the gills with colorful hipster visitors, one of whom blatantly sets her house on fire. But that’s Birdie — the model and Instagram fashion plate is bright, outspoken, and more than a bit troublesome, much like all the “disruptors” invited to billionaire Miles Bron’s (Edward Norton) private Greek island for a fun murder-mystery weekend.
From the the rainbow lamé dress to the the quarantine party pajamas, Birdie’s wardrobe was perfection – truly portraying her character. One of the outfit that got our attention was the Mulan Orange Bikini from Nigeria’s Andrea Iyamah.
Talking to Tudum (a global fan event that covers Netflix’s original films), Jennie Eagan – custome designer talked about what each sumptuous, eye-candy ensemble says about her (Birdie) character.
She tells the publication ”After a two-hour yacht trip to Bron’s private island, Birdie and her friends enjoy a quiet afternoon at the pool. Casual? Never heard of her. Wasn’t that beautiful? It was just so bold. It was nothing that I would ever put on my body, but with Birdie and Kate herself, her confidence [in] that bikini was just over the top enough to press that character even more. Who would go on vacation to your friend’s house and bring that bikini, except for someone like that? With her silk caftan! And everything was matching — the hats were all made for her too. So the start was the bikini, and then the rest just fell into place so naturally. She has the most looks because she randomly changes [outfits]. She’s got a robe on in a different scene for no reason, but that’s what’s fun.”
Clothing label Andrea Iyamah, created by Nigerian fashion designer Andrea Dumebi Iyamah, is heavily influenced by natural elements and ethnic cultures. Since her establishment in 2011, Andrea Iyamah has incorporated design aspects to produce real apparel and resort wear that honors both her African heritage and other cultures. The first official swim collection was introduced in 2013 and heavily influenced by the brand’s African history. Since then, it has been seen on celebrities including Michelle Obama, Kate Hudson, Gabrielle Union, Ciara, Issa Rae, and many more, becoming a cult favorite for African resort wear.
