In addition to the many titles each member of the British royal family has, Prince Harry also has a unique list of nicknames that his wife Duchess Meghan and other close friends and relatives use to refer to him.

The affectionate nicknames “Haz” and “H” have been used by Meghan to refer to her husband on several occasions in recent years. In the couple’s new docuseries, Harry & Meghan, she, as well as her mother and a number of their shared acquaintances, use these similar nicknames to refer to the prince. See the brief history of these two unique names below.

H

Her hubby is referred to as “H” by Meghan. In the first episode of the docuseries, she explains, When I tell the narrative of our early relationship, “I had a career, I had my life, I had my path, and then came H. Talk about a plot twist.” In the episodes that follow, she keeps calling him H.

The moniker was first used by Meghan in 2019, when she and Harry recorded the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey in preparation for their departure from the royal family. “I’ve said for a long time to H—that’s what I call him—[that] it’s not enough to just survive something, right? That’s not the point of life,” she says in the doc. “You’ve got to thrive, you’ve got to feel happy.”

HAZ

Meghan says that Harry’s phone contact name has been “Prince Haz” since when they first met in Volume I of the docuseries. Meghan reveals that the common friend who introduced her and Harry used the nickname “Prince Haz” while describing him to her when they first met and went on their first date.

The Duchess of Sussex also claims that their close pals prefer to refer to them as “Meg” and “Haz.” She doesn’t go into further detail about the history, but Haz is a popular nickname for Harry in Britain, and we are aware that it has special meaning for the Sussex family.

Harry makes it clear to host James Corden that “Haz” is exclusive to her in a 2021 visit on The Late Late Show, during which Meghan is first heard using the pet name while remotely dialing into the interview.
