On the 30th of November, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, and William, the Prince of Wales, arrived at Boston’s Logan Airport in matching black suits. The pair is in town to attend the Royal Foundation’s Earthshot award ceremony for environmental pioneers. The royal couple’s visit to the United States is their first in eight years and their first since the loss of Queen Elizabeth II.
William and Kate arrived in dressed professionally but down, perhaps anticipating the intense attention their visit would bring. Over a turtleneck and ankle-length pants, the Princess of Wales wore a tightly cropped jacket with shoulder pads. In contrast, Prince William sported a black suit with a blue tie. The pair appeared to be trying to convey power and togetherness by wearing nearly identical clothing.
There are three days of public engagements planned for the royal couple while they are in Boston, culminating in an awards ceremony that will feature a performance by Billie Eilish. Other items on the itinerary include a visit to the John F Kennedy Memorial Museum, where a visit with the late president’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy, will take place. In a formal statement issued soon after the couple arrived, Prince William praised Boston for its support and paid respect to his late grandmother. “I would like to thank the people of Massachusetts and particularly of Boston for their many tributes paid to the late Queen,” he said. “She remembered her 1976 bicentennial visit with great fondness. My grandmother was one of life’s optimists. And so am I.”
