Fans have been waiting for a heartfelt Shakira heartache song for a very long time, so the possibility that one is finally on the way is bittersweet.
The newly separated singer shared a mysterious, ominous film over the weekend that appears to be a preview for a song about her breakup with longtime partner Gerard Piqué. The brief video depicts a guy trampling on a human heart and causing it to bleed while its presumed owner kneels in front of it and tries to save it.
Shakira even gave a sneak peek at the lyrics. “Nunca dije nada, pero me dolía. Yo sabía que esto pasaría,” she wrote in Spanish in the caption; it translates to, “I never said anything, but it hurt me. I knew this would happen.”
The single’s title, “Monotona,” and the date of its release were both revealed in a different post by the artist.
