The explosive memoir Spare by Prince Harry sheds light on the conflict that existed between Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, in the early stages of the Sussexes’ marriage.

Harry claims that Meghan and Kate fell out after Meghan told her sister-in-law that she had “baby brain,” a colloquialism for the “memory problems, poor concentration, and absent-mindedness” some experience during and after pregnancy, according to the Mayo Clinic, in an excerpt translated from the Spanish-language version of the memoir and obtained by NBC News.

Harry recalls Meghan saying Kate had “baby brain” when the Princess of Wales confessed she had forgotten something unimportant, which infuriated the royal. Meghan, however, was perplexed by Kate’s outraged response and claimed that her statement was how she conversed with friends.

In June 2018, a month after Meghan and Harry’s wedding, Kate and Meghan sought to resolve their disagreement over tea at Kensington Palace with the help of their respective spouses, Prince William and Harry. Kate, who had just given birth to Prince Louis, allegedly demanded an apology from Meghan, stating,”You talked about my hormones. We are not close enough for you to talk about my hormones!”

The “offended” princess was so outraged, according to Harry, that she grabbed her chair so firmly that her fingers turned white. According to the excerpt, William accused Meghan of making a “rude” remark that was inappropriate for Britain and pointed his finger at her. Meghan replied, “Take your finger out of my face,” to her brother-in-law.

The conversation is only one of numerous tense confrontations between Meghan and the Waleses that Spare documents. Page Six reports that Harry discusses the widely reported event in which Kate supposedly made Meghan weep days before her and Harry’s wedding in another paragraph.

Princess Charlotte’s flower girl outfit had a “issue,” according to a text message from Kate to Meghan. She said that Charlotte “broke into tears when she tried it on” and that the garment was “very large, long, and loose.” Charlotte’s outfit would need to be altered, so Meghan instructed Kate to bring her to the palace. With only four days to the wedding, Kate informed the future bride that every bridesmaid dress required a complete remaking. The queen then referenced Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen as her own wedding gown designer, who concurred that the garments needed to be remade. In the end, Kate took Charlotte to the tailor to have her dress changed, but Harry recalls that after their dispute, he subsequently saw his future bride sobbing “on the floor.” The duke also reveals that Kate sent flowers and a card the next day to express her regret.
