Prince Harry is eager to patch things up with his brother Prince William after years of separation, however he is aware that it would be difficult.
The Duke of Sussex breaks down in tears when discussing his rocky relationship with his brother and father, King Charles III, in his sit-down interviews with ITV and 60 Minutes, which both aired today. I love my father, I love my brother, I love family,” Harry tells ITV. “I don’t think my father or brother will read the book, but what they have to say to me and what I have to say to them will be in private, and I hope it can stay that way.”
Additionally, he tells 60 Minutes that he is not coming out against his brother, father, or family to hurt them or portray them as adversaries, but rather to correct the record of what has been stated about them. Harry says he’s looking forward to him and William “being able to find peace” in the near future, despite the fact that he acknowledges they haven’t spoken in a while and that he doesn’t see himself ever returning as a senior member of the royal family.
“My brother and I love each other. I love him deeply. There has been a lot of pain between the two of us, especially the last six years,” Harry says.
It is also obvious Harry also wants to support his wife, Meghan Markle, who several have blamed of pressuring him to sever connections with his family and renounce his royal heritage for her.
“None of anything that I’ve written, anything I’ve included, is ever intended to hurt my family,” Harry says. “But it does give a full picture of the situation as we were growing up, and also squashes this idea that somehow my wife was the one that destroyed the relationship between these two brothers.”
Harry speaks extensively about his fallout with William in his autobiography, Spare, describing everything from the time the future king physically assaulted Harry over a dispute involving Duchess Meghan to the time he allowed his communications team to leak damaging information about Harry and Meghan to the British press in order to protect himself and Princess Catherine from being targets.
