A scary run-in between Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, has been revealed in an excerpt from Prince Harry’s eagerly awaited book, Spare.
In the book, Harry remembers a furious argument with William about Duchess Meghan, whom the Duke of Sussex had married a year before. In an excerpt published by The Guardian, he claims that when William arrived to his house, Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, he wanted to chat to him about their relationship and difficulties with the British media, but the future king was already “piping hot.”
William allegedly described Meghan as “difficult,” “rude,” and “abrasive” according to Harry. Harry claims William was acting more like an heir than a brother and wouldn’t be reasonable when he was told by Harry that he was only repeating the press account of her.
In Harry’s account, insults were traded, despite William’s claims that he was only attempting to assist. Harry recalls telling his brother “Are you serious? Help me? Sorry—is that what you call this? Helping me?”
Willy, I can’t speak to you while you’re like this, Harry allegedly told his brother while giving him a glass of water. “He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me,” Harry writes. “I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
Harry claims William pushed him to fight back but when he refused, William departed. You don’t need to tell Meg about this, William stated after coming back looking sorry, and apologized according to Harry.
“You mean that you attacked me?” Harry says he asked him. “I didn’t attack you, Harold,” William replied.
Harry claims that he phoned his therapist to discuss the incident and that he only told Meghan about it when she saw the “scrapes and bruises” he had on his back.
