Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have officially chosen to go their separate ways, closing the chapter on their love story. The split was initiated by Lopez, who filed for divorce with the official date of separation being 26 April, as confirmed by People, following Lopez’s filing in Los Angeles Superior Court on 20 August.

The news confirms speculation about the couple’s relationship. Reports in mid-May suggested trouble in their marriage due to differing views on media attention. Several outlets reported that the couple was living apart, although Lopez pent time with friends and family—including Affleck’s 18-year-old daughter, Violet—in the Hamptons, where she hosted an extravagant party for her 55th birthday.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony held in Riceboro, Georgia on 20 August, 2022. The event marked the culmination of a love story that had been brewing for two decades. It all began back in November of 2002, when Affleck popped the question to Lopez after they met on the set of the infamous film, Gigli. However, just a little over a year later, the couple shocked the world by calling off their wedding.

“Ben and I broke up three days before our wedding, and we crumbled under the pressure. You think you’re doing okay, so you shrug it off,” Lopez said in her Amazon Prime documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told. “I think I was angry at [Affleck] for a long time. But that heartbreak set both of us on a course to figuring ourselves out, to being better people. I think I’ve forgiven you all the way. I think I need to forgive myself [for] some things.”

Both Lopez and Affleck moved on to marry other people: Lopez found love with Marc Anthony, while Affleck walked down the aisle with Jennifer Garner. Despite their separate paths, fate had other plans for them. After their divorces, they rekindled their romance and decided to make it official in Riceboro. The wedding in Georgia was not just a celebration of their union but also a testament to the power of love and second chances.
