During her first interview, Kate Winslet offers a young journalist the loveliest pep talk.
The Avatar: The Way of Water actor is seated with a young reporter from German public service broadcaster ZDF in a now-viral video clip. The young reporter hesitantly confesses to the actress that this is her first interview.
The interviewer admits, “It is my first time,” in the video. “This is your first time doing it? Okay, well, guess what,” Winslet responds. “When we do this interview, it’s going to be the most amazing interview ever. And do you know why? … Because we’ve decided that it is going to be.”
As Winslet continues, the journalist stifles a giggle. “So we’ve decided right now—me and you—this is going to be a really fantastic interview. And you can ask me anything that you want, and you don’t have to be scared. Everything is going to be amazing.”
Winslet has been on a hectic publicity tour for Avatar for the past month. Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, and Zoe Saldaña were among her co-stars in the much awaited sequel to the James Cameron-directed movie, which came out 13 years after the first.
Winslet gave an explanation of her decision to take on the character of Ronal in an interview with Screen Rant. “There was just no way I was going to say no,” she said. “When [James Cameron] first talked to me about playing this part, and he described Ronal, he said, ‘Look, she’s the matriarch, she’s the female goddess warrior leader of her clan.’ I mean, who writes roles like that for women?”
