The Devil Wears Prada: Emily Blunt Wants a Sequel Just Like the Rest of Us

Emily Blunt is completely on board for a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.

On The View today, the actress—who plays Emily Charlton in the 2006 cult classic—explained why she would agree to a sequel. “The green eye shadow is so horrifying, it has to get another outing. So bad,” Blunt joked of her character. “And the fashion—we loved it. I would do [a sequel] in a heartbeat just to play with those guys again. It’s so fun,” she added of her costars.

Emily Charlton, played by Blunt, is the stylish assistant to Meryl Streep’s imposing Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. Journalist Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, finds her way into the world of fashion editorial but quickly realizes it’s not where she wants to be.

The amazing Stanley Tucci, who plays Nigel, a high-ranking magazine employee who finally gets passed over by Priestly, is also featured in the film. (In actuality, Tucci wed Felicity Blunt, the older sister of Blunt, in 2012; the couple is still together today.)

Hathaway also made an appearance on The View earlier this month, where she stated that she thoroughly enjoyed filming The Devil Wears Prada but that a sequel would probably not be successful in the modern world.

“I just think that movie was in a different era,” she explained. “Now, everything has gone so digital, and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing, and it’s just very different now.”

She added, “It is tempting to think about Andy and Emily needing to get Miranda her coffee, and she’s somewhere in Europe, and then along the way they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy, who’s at a restaurant. … It’s tempting, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. They could relaunch it, find new people, and do it.”
