How To Pull Off The Major Comeback Of The ’90s Beauty Trend

In case you haven’t noticed, ’90s beauty trends are having a renaissance. We’ve seen Dua Lipa rock a frosted lid, Iris Law nail high shine lips, and Bella Hadid make the case for needle-thin brows. At the autumn/winter 2022 shows, we’ve seen glossy lips at Dolce & Gabbana and frosted lids at Ambush. But another ’90s throwback emerged this season, the classic brown eye. We saw it teamed with glassy skin and a nude lip at Emilia Wickstead, and again at Supriya Lele, where make-up artist Fara Homidi threw back to the decade in which she came of age.

Brown eyes, unlike frosted lids, go with everything and may be amped up with a lacquered lip or pared down with a nude, sepia tone, or matte texture. It’s also a terrific way to participate in the current ’90s comeback without over-plucking your brows— particularly if you were a victim of this trend the first time around and have only recently recovered your hair.

Homidi explains how to get the perfect ’90s brown eye to British Vogue and we are here for it!!!

Select a brown that complements your skin tone.

Choose one that you like best and smear it at the base of your eyelid with it.

Recommended product: Chanel Stylo Ombre Et Contour

Blend towards the outer corner of the eye.

Blend the creamy texture upwards and slightly outwards towards the outer eye corners with a fluffy eye brush, somewhat elongating the eye. The finish should be a mid-tone brown that is slightly translucent.

Recommended product: MAC 217S

Line the lashes at the bottom.

Line the bottom lashes with the same pencil, then smear it out with your finger in classic ’90s style.

Apply mascara

Finish with a slick of black mascara, but not too much, because the eyeshadow is the main attraction.

Recommended product: Byredo Space Black Mascara

Choose a creamy matte foundation for your foundation.

Always begin there and determine whether a foundation is even required. Swipe a bit of the creamy foundation beneath your eyes, then down the sides of your nose and laugh lines. Also, address any imperfections with a spot treatment. Using your fingertips, blend into the skin.

Recommended product: Cle de Peau concealers

Apply some additional foundation as necessary.

Add a dab of Foundation and blend outwards towards the edges of the face if you need a little more coverage for evenness.

Recommended product: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Make your pout perfect.

All you need is a double slick of any of the ’90s-inspired lipstick colours, and you’re good to go
