We usually enjoy taking stock of the year’s most beautiful moments at the end of the year. Fortunately, there is a ton of inspiration for hair and cosmetics

In order to make up for the years lost to the pandemic, this year’s global beauty market, brands, and content producers worked nonstop. As a result, we had the chance to try out cutting-edge, scientifically backed products, a variety of product lines, the emergence of celebrity- and homegrown-owned brands, distinctive trends, and a few iconic beauty moments that would go down in history as the year 2022’s most significant in the field.

Our favorite celebs wore some of the most eye-catching outfits during the past 12 months at premieres, award ceremonies, and concerts. A few examples are Mary J. Blige’s commanding performance at the Super Bowl in a full face of Fenty Beauty, Dua Lipa’s platinum blonde Grammys hair debut, and Jenna Ortega’s gothic glam Wednesday red carpet look.

The following moments stand out as the most intriguing in terms of beauty from 2022 as we end up the year and reflect.

BEAUTY TRENDS

Hailey Bieber’s ā€œGlazed Donutā€

No other beauty trend gained as much traction on social media as the Glazed Doughnut craze. Glazed doughnut skin, nails, and hair, a general trend, entered the list of the most popular social media posts. Hailey Bieber’s glazed doughnut nails at the Met Gala 2022 helped to advance the trend, and that was only the start of anything shiny. For 2023, we hope the founder would heed our requests to have more Stock in store as Peptide Glazing Fluid, which Bieber swears by, is constantly out of supply.

Minimal Glam

The pandemic hiatus took some time for us to recover from, and in the interim, minimal glam took over. Our beauty regimen evolved from healthy naked skin to include stylish and delicate makeup. It was the actual meaning of “less is more” in terms of dewy skin, a flawless base, flushed cheeks, framed eyes, and glossy lips.

Shaved Eyebrows

Doja Cat bravely broke social beauty norms by shaving her hair and eyebrows live on Instagram. It was a turning point that had a lasting impression on many individuals, encouraging them to always be their own brand of beautiful.

Copper Hair Makeover

Since 2022 put us back in our stylists’ chairs, hairstyle trends had to be iconic. Copper and blonde hair fought hard for the championship, but copper did take the biggest chunk. All popular celebrities, from Zendaya to Sophie Turner, followed the fad, and we hope it stays strong in 2023 as well.

Bleached Eyebrows

Countless celebrities have endorsed the trend of bleached brows, which has been popular all year. One of them, Kendall Jenner, made her sparse brow debut at the MET Gala. Mary Phillips, a cosmetic artist, made care to use Kylie Cosmetics’ Kybrow Gel to keep her brow hairs in place.

2022 Saw An Increase in Celebrity Men in Beauty

One of 2022’s highlights was the role that celebrity men had in the beauty industry. From Ranveer Singh’s investment in SUGAR Cosmetics to celebrities like Brad Pitt, Travis Barker, and Jared Leto establishing their skincare brands, it looked for the first time that men and beauty were on the same page.

Skin Barrier and Ceramides

Healthy skin remained popular despite the shift to soft glam. Instead, due to overstimulation of the skin and an excess of active ingredients, the emphasis has switched to strengthening the barrier. Our skincare regimen included repairing the damage, thus ceramides entered the conversation.

Ceramides, which constitute about 30% of the outer skin layer, are lipids that are present in the skin. Products with ceramides in them quickly gained popularity on the beauty market and were chosen as the best additions to skincare regimens.

Bold Blush Trends

Blush is one of those cosmetics that we can’t stop using these days, and for good reason. It gives the complexion a natural-looking color boost, may be worn boldly and brightly or as a sheer wash of color, and comes in a variety of pleasing tones that can make anybody feel happier.

The use of blush as a means of expression as well as a cosmetic step will be one of the top beauty trends of 2022. Wearing dramatic outfits with ample blush application was all the trend this year. Blush trends completely dominated the 2022 beauty scene, from draping blush to the “I’m cold” style.

Wednesday Addams makeup

It comes as no surprise that Wednesday Addams makeup is popular given how popular the Netflix series Wednesday is and how much of a revival the goth glam style is now experiencing.

TheĀ Jellyfish HaircutĀ

The jellyfish haircut quickly became one of the year’s most divisive trends. At the American Music Awards, however, model Joan Smalls nailed the dramatic look with ease. The AF1 Restructuring 10-in-1 Leave-In Conditioner ($14), Prism Shine Softening CrĆØme ($14), Hard Strong Hold Hairspray ($14), and Prism Shine Invisible Shine Hair Spray ($14) were used by hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons to style her hair.

CONTROVERSIES

Brown Lips Controversy

Glossy brown lips, one of the most popular 90s trends, returned this year, but it split the internet. The hack for a “Brownie Glazed Lip” was published by trend-starter Hailey Bieber with her followers, which put the trend on the radar of those interested in beauty.

Because there wasn’t a nude shade available on the market in the early 1990s, women of color utilized a dark lip liner to make one that suited their skin tone. Because they were accused of being “ghetto” for doing so, Hailey’s rendition was problematic and a prime illustration of the industry’s double standards.

Tessa Thompson

Tessa Thompson never fails to inspire me with her beauty. One of the looks we immediately thumbnailed at the MET Gala was her monochromatic raspberry makeup. The Neo Nude A-Blush in 51 on her cheeks and Lip Power Lipstick in 200 on her lips were used by makeup artist Maud Laceppe to create the look.

Zoe Kravitz

Everything about Zoe Kravitz’s side baby bangs is stunning. Kravitz appeared on multiple red carpets wearing the look while she was promoting Catwoman. Of course, the idea for the ultra-chic style came from her longtime hairdresser Nikki Nelms.

Alicia Keys

For the Met Gala, Alicia Keys worked with hairstylist Fesa Nu to craft this adorned ponytail. A few bejeweled swoops around the edges embellish the front of the sleek, basic hairstyle. The back, however, is where the style really shines. Nine jewel-encrusted discs are used as accessories with the long braided ponytail.

Lizzo

Grungy glam best describes Lizzo’s captivating appearance at the VMAs in two terms. By applying Charlotte Tilbury’s Rock ‘N’ Kohl Eyeliner in Bedroom Black ($28) and Eye Colour Magic Liner Duo in Super Blue ($32), the musician’s makeup artist achieved the bold navy lip. Shelby Swain, a hairstylist, used Matrix Instacure Anti-Breakage Porosity Spray ($24) and Matrix Vavoom Extra Full Freezing Spray ($26) to create slicked-back cascading waves to draw attention away from the makeup and outfit.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s hair was usually curled tightly when she first appeared on the scene. She’s been known for soft waves lately, but at the American Music Awards, she returned to her traditional look. For the occasion, her hairdresser made a few minor changes to the style, like sweeping the curls out for more thickness and adding a phony side bang.

Old Hollywood glamour

Zendaya

Outstanding homage to Old Hollywood glitz was made by Zendaya’s Emmys attire. To achieve the actress’s delicate, natural dazzle, makeup artist Sheika Daley turned to Lancome products. Tony Medina, a stylist known for crafting looks with retro influences, worked on Zendaya’s hair. In order to style her hair, Medina used Tangle Teezer and Aunt Jackie’s Curls & Coils Grapeseed line of products.

Actress HoYeon Jung of Squid Games also drew style cues from the Golden Age of Hollywood and chose to walk the red carpet with a short, wavy hairstyle. Jenny Cho, a hairstylist, used Augustinus Bader products to prep and style her hair. A flowery barrette was added to her center part as an additional accessory.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s work in House of Gucci earned her two Screen Actors Guild nominations this year. She wore an old Hollywood-inspired ensemble with a contemporary touch for the occasion. In order to achieve Gaga’s overdone white eye and creamy pink lip, Gaga’s veteran MUA Sarah Tanno employed Haus Labs products.

Braid Power

Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama Continues To Be One Of The Most Fashionable First Ladies Ever, Even Outside Of The White House

Throughout the The Light We Carry book tour, all eyes were on Michelle Obama‘s stunning goddess braids. The former First Lady demonstrated the adaptability of the protective style by donning them in a variety of looks. Obama recently spoke openly to Revolt about her choice to forgo braids while residing in the White House. “To be honest, we were the first [Black president and first lady in the White House]. They gotta get used to us. Now I could show up in braids, and now that’s all we talk about.Ā When we did a fist bump with each other, they turned that into a terrorist act. It’s just who needs the hassle? Let me just straighten my hair. I wore weaves, extensions, and protective styles because you get your hair done every day and sometimes twice a day. I would not have any hair on my head if I straightened it as much as I had to straighten it.”

Lupita Nyong’o

GETTY IMAGES

Lupita Nyong’o, as always, looked stunning on the red carpet, but her Oscars ensemble was the highlight. Her sculptural updo, which was done by veteran hairdresser Vernon FranƧois using Matrix products, was unquestionably the highlight of the event.

Nick Barose, the actress’ go-to makeup artist, crafted a complimenting look that was inspired by Lupita’s gown. He especially used L’Absolu Rouge ($32) in the shade Mademoiselle Lupita and IdĆ“le Liquid Liner ($22) from LancĆ“me.

Ā “The hairstyle is partly inspired by African figures in classical Greek art,” FranƧois previously shared. “It is a sister locks updo with a soft, graceful, glamorous feel influenced by what Lupita is wearing.”Ā

Sheryl Lee RalphĀ

Sheryl Lee Ralph graced the podium with a sparkling braid as she graciously collected her first Emmy. The silver stones were meticulously arranged into the braid and throughout her hair by hairstylist Moira Frazier. Mila Thomas, Ralph’s makeup artist, expertly placed a few jewels around her eyes to match the look.

Blonde Locks

Mary J. Blige

At this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, Mary J. Blige was the lone female singer to take the stage. She was wearing her trademark blonde hair, which was well curled. Her cosmetics was, however, also the center of attention. The singer’s makeup artist Porsche Cooper created a bold smoky eye, natural-pink lip, and glowy copper highlight using only Fenty Beauty products. Using the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in Fenty Glow ($20), Icon Refillable Lipstick in Motha Luva ($20), Snap Shadows Mix & Match Eyeshadow Palette in True Neutrals ($28), and Liquid Killawatt Fluid Freestyle Highlighter in Honey Hawtie ($28), you can get Mary J. Blige’s look at home.

Pamela Anderson

HULUĀ

For the eagerly anticipated Hulu series Pam & Tommy, Lily James’ metamorphosis into Pamela Anderson was flawless. Barry Lee Moe, the hair lead, utilized antique Remington hot rollers to create Anderson’s enormous curls. Using Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk ($24), Stila liners, and Tom Ford smokey eye palettes, makeup artist David Williams mimicked the bombshell’s sparse brows and slightly overdrawn lips.
