Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus — or “Happy Saint David’s Day.” The Princess of Wales marked the occasion with a meaningful gesture, delivering her first public address in Welsh alongside Prince William.

Speaking from Frogmore House on the Windsor Home Park estate, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a message on their official social media accounts. Prince William opened in Welsh:

“To everyone in Wales, a very Happy St David’s Day. It is a beautiful country, with a rich history and wonderful people.”

Catherine followed, also speaking in Welsh:

“Wales is very close to our hearts, and we look forward to every visit. Wishing you a day full of celebration with family and friends.”

The address was warmly received, marking a thoughtful tribute to Welsh culture on its patron saint’s day.

A Considered Fashion Statement

For the occasion, Catherine chose a houndstooth pleated maxi dress by Alessandra Rich, featuring puffed sleeves, delicate buttons, and a feminine collar. She paired the look with black Jennifer Chamandi suede pumps and a Mulberry Bayswater clutch in matching suede. Her jewellery selection included Cartier Trinity earrings, a Spells of Love double-strand chain necklace, and Asprey London woodland charms.

A daffodil — the national flower of Wales — was pinned to her lapel, adding a symbolic finishing touch.

The Princess previously wore the dress in May 2021 during a visit to the V&A Museum, demonstrating her continued commitment to wardrobe recycling — a hallmark of her style. She frequently turns to Alessandra Rich for refined silhouettes, having worn the designer during visits to Ireland and Bletchley Park.

Her long brunette hair was styled loose and flowing, while makeup remained understated: a soft brown smoky eye and minimal, elegant glam.

A Week of Meaningful Appearances

Earlier in the week, the royal couple visited Powys, Wales, where Catherine embraced the rainy weather in a rich burgundy Alexander McQueen coat by Sarah Burton — another thoughtful rewear. The look echoed what many describe as the “Kate school of style”: timeless tailoring, loyal brand partnerships, and a conscious approach to fashion sustainability.

She also recently returned to the BAFTAs in princess mode, rewearing a custom lilac chiffon Gucci gown — reinforcing her consistent message of elegance with responsibility.

Catherine’s first Welsh-language address — in one of the world’s oldest living languages — was both symbolic and sincere. As Princess of Wales, her effort to honor the culture she represents resonated deeply. Delivered in the colors of Y Ddraig Ddu (the Welsh dragon), it was, indeed, tlws — beautiful.
