Michael Rider will take over as creative director of the esteemed fashion brand Celine, which is owned by LVMH, beginning in early 2025. In this new position, Rider will be entrusted with the complete creative oversight of all Celine collections, spanning from womenswear and menswear to leather goods, accessories, and even couture.

The statement released by Celine highlights the immense responsibility that comes with this role, emphasizing Rider’s pivotal role in shaping the brand’s future direction and aesthetic vision. With his keen eye for design and innovative approach, Rider is poised to lead Celine into a new era of creativity and style.

Following Celine’s announcement of Slimane’s departure earlier on Wednesday, the fashion world was abuzz with anticipation for what would come next. Enter Rider, the prodigal son returning home to Celine. The American designer had previously served as design director at the brand, a role he held for a decade during Phoebe Philo’s iconic reign. Most recently, Rider had been making waves as the creative director at Polo Ralph Lauren, a position he had taken on in 2018. However, Rider made the bold decision to part ways with Ralph Lauren at the end of May, paving the way for his triumphant return to Celine.

“I am delighted to welcome Michael back to Celine, a maison that he knows intimately. Michael’s vision, creative talent, together with his genuine nature and strong connection to Celine’s heritage make him a natural choice to continue to build a long-lasting success for the maison,” said Severine Merle, CEO of Celine.

Rider said: “Celine is a maison with values very close to my heart and a beautiful heritage to build on.”
