Sabrina Carpenter & Jenna Ortega’s ‘Taste’ Is Full of Movie Magic—Here’s What You Need to Know!

Sabrina Carpenter drops her sixth studio album Short n’ Sweet after a series of Billboard 100 chart-topping songs like “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.”

The video, released Aug. 23 with the album, shows Carpenter seeking revenge on her ex-lover (played by Rohan Campbell) and his new girlfriend (Ortega). Directed by Dave Meyers, the clip features the two women engaging in gory revenge tactics, including knives, chainsaws, and voodoo dolls. In a darkly comic twist, Ortega accidentally kills her boyfriend, leading to the pair becoming evil besties. The video ends with them walking off together, leaving a grieving mother behind. The references in “Taste” include nods to horror films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Child’s Play.

Death Becomes Her

“Taste” pays tribute to the 1992 satirical fantasy classic “The Feast of the Sword,” featuring Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as enemies fighting for the same man. The music video and movie share the same premise and visually stunning moments with Carpenter and Ortega wearing similar funeral attire—Carpenter in an off-the-shoulder black gown and waves, and Ortega in a pouff sleeve gown and a matching face veil.

Ginger Snaps

In the video, Ortega fires a gun at Carpenter, causing her to tumble over a balcony and onto a picket fence. Despite being impaled, Carpenter retaliates by hurling a knife at Ortega, causing her eye to be wounded, reminiscent of the 2000 Canadian horror film Ginger Snaps, which depicts two sisters transforming into werewolves.

Kill Bill

Carpenter’s fall was a tragic accident that led her to the hospital where she was taken care of by her longtime nemesis, Ortega. Unexpectedly, Ortega was posing as her caretaker, adding a sinister twist to her situation. Her aggressive demeanor and her choice of attire, a nurse’s costume inspired by Elle Driver from Kill Bill, added to the unsettling atmosphere.

Psycho

Carpenter cunningly plans a surprise knife attack on the unsuspecting actress while they are both in the midst of showering. Drawing inspiration from horror legend Alfred Hitchcock. The video pays homage to the famous shower scene from “Psycho,” with Marion Crane meeting her demise at the hands of Norman Bates. However, the unexpected twist comes when Ortega retaliates by swiftly wielding a machete and severing Carpenter’s entire arm in a brutal display of self-defense.
