Taylor Swift has arrived fashionably late at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards in a dramatic plaid gown at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
The Reputation-core outfit was black and yellow, featuring a zip-up corset top, black short shorts, and a long ball-gown-esque train. Swift elevated the revenge-inspired look from Christian Dior’s Resort 2025 collection (look 32 to be precise) with lace-up black leather opera gloves, leather knee-high boots from Stuart Weitzman, a matching plaid choker, and Lorraine Schwartz canary yellow diamond earrings surrounded by black Jade. She completed the edgy ensemble with jet black eye makeup, a blood-red lip, and silky waves with straight bangs in her hair.
Later that night, Swift switched into an asymmetrical beaded dress featuring a UFO hovering over a landscape, which she donned to receive the last award of the night, Video of the Year.
As predicted by Swifties online, the pop star is set to announce the release of her re-recorded Reputation album, the one inspired by Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, on the same stage where, 15 years ago, the rapper famously interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech for “You Belong With Me.”
Swift, who reached a career peak last year with her rerecorded “Taylor’s Version” albums and Eras Tour, is leading the nominees list with 12 nominations. Last year, she was the lead nominee and wore a Reputation-coded black Versace dress with gold and diamond jewelry. The dress featured an asymmetric neckline, ruched details, golden buttons, and a high leg slit, with strappy black sandals peeking out.
