Vintage is still a trend on the red carpet, and Tyla, the South African singer of “Water,” arrived at the 2024 BET Awards in a dress from the soaring noughties.

The vintage Versace dress from the Fall/Winter 2004 ready-to-wear collection had a collared halter neckline with a daring keyhole cutout that revealed her belly button. Ruching at the waist led to a thigh-high slit, while chrome studs and a yellow tiger-print train added texture to the look. Styled by Katie Qian, the Versace dress played a significant role in the brand’s 2004 metamorphosis. This was the year when Donatella Versace entered rehab following the tragic murder of her brother, Gianni Versace, in 1997. After rehab, the brand started to rejuvenate with the hiring of Giancarlo Di Risio as CEO in August 2004.

Tyla also sported $230,000 worth of jewelry from Jared Atelier, including 70 carats of stone, including drop earrings and an emerald-cut diamond bracelet, which cost $115,000 each. She topped off the look with killer Flor de Maria heels.

The 22 year old went on to win two prestigious awards at the event last night and delivered a show-stopping performance with Gunna and Skillibeng.
