Margot Robbie Taps Barbie Into The Vintage ’90s Era

It’s not surprising that Margot Robbie has been heavily influenced by her Mattel doll for the promotional tour given the long history of the Barbie doll since its introduction in 1959. In her press tour, Robbie has showcased varying classic and modern Barbiecore doll iterations, but recently the actor has leaned more into the vintage ’90s era.

She recently wore a custom Valentino pink polka-dot minidress that was inspired by Karen Mulder’s 1993 collection and a vintage Chanel jacket that Claudia Schiffer debuted on the 1996 runway. Her recent outing to Vogue Australia’s Barbie celebration party at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art saw her in a metal-mesh minidress from the fall 1994 collection that featured a bustier bodice and a flouncy skirt. She paired it with Manolo Blahnik sandals and minimal jewelry.

Robbie also wore a Versace print campaign from 1994 inspired by Kate Moss earlier in the day, accessorizing a pale pink turtleneck sweater and metallic pleated skirt with white loafers and purple crew socks.

In all its clarity, Robbie is enjoying the life and wardrobe of a real-life Barbie; we just can’t wait for what archival pieces she and stylist Andrew Mukamal have in store for us in the days to come.
