Rihanna’s Super Bowl Beauty Included Bold Red Lips and a Soft Matte Glow

A Rihanna performance wouldn’t be complete without some major style and beauty inspo. Unsurprisingly, Rihanna performed with a full face of Fenty Beauty on. She had a radiant complexion, shimmering makeup, and a lengthy ponytail with several braids. The star of the event, though, was actually her red lip.

The singer, dressed in a flashy red attire with a multi-strand braided Medusa ponytail and matching red lipstick, descended from the stadium’s ceiling with her dancers looking sporty-chic and prepared for action. She had face-framing tendrils pushed out on either side of her face and her hair was separated in the middle, making it easy for her to dance and perform songs from her incredibly amazing discography. Rih kept her makeup simple aside from having dewy, luminous skin, thin brows, and a burst of glittery eyeshadow on her lids for subtle definition.

It didn’t involve any wardrobe changes, makeup changes, or hairdo modifications, but after a few songs, RiRi removed her long, red gloves to display a matching manicure that matched the one she wore earlier in the week. Matching her new baby bump-hugging look by Loewe, custom made coats by Alaïa by Pieter Mullier, and chunky MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon trainers, the mogul wore her Fenty Beauty Icon Velvet Lipstick in shade ‘The MVP’, and CND Shellac nail polish in shade ‘Devil Red’ – both arresting blue-red hues.

Her dancers wore all-white outfits, making the star in scarlet the center of attention. She also wore red sneakers and a red latex strapless bra top over a turtleneck.

The look took three months to create, according to Rihanna’s longtime makeup artist and Fenty Beauty global beauty artist Priscilla Ono, and it’s a reference to the Rihanna we’ve grown to love over the past 15+ years. “That red stage called for the ultimate Rihanna red lip,” Adding “We wanted her beauty look to celebrate this moment and be a true reflection of her timeless beauty. And to me, there’s nothing more iconic to Rihanna than her soft matte skin and a bold red lip.”

For a natural look that was nevertheless performance-proof, Ono applied layers of Fenty’s Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Powder Foundation, and Invisimatte Instant Setting + Blotting Powder to Rihanna’s skin. The new Fenty Icon Velvet Liquid Lipstick, which has a creamy, non-drying texture that is comfortable on the lips, was used by the makeup artist to apply the woman’s bold choice of lipstick.

Rihanna received an exfoliating and nourishing treatment from Ono for the week leading up to the Big Game to ensure her skin was properly prepared.

“Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor is the perfect pre-makeup moisturizer because it nourishes the skin and is undetectable under foundation,” explains Ono. “You don’t have to worry about your complexion products fading or moving, which is so important, especially for performance makeup.”

Rihanna’s monochromatic ensemble was finished off by vibrant red nails. “We wanted the nails to pop, so we went with CND’s Devil Red, which is the perfect true red that really complements her tone,” says celebrity nail artist Kimmie Kyees. “The longer length square shaped tips also beautifully lengthened her hands while still staying true to the classic look.”
