Riley Keough’s mother, Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Priscilla and Elvis Presley, passed away at the age of 54 from a cardiac arrest. After Lisa Marie was taken by ambulance from her Calabasas home to the hospital on January 12, Priscilla, now 77, announced her daughter’s demise.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” she wrote in a statement. “She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”
The announcement comes only a few days after Lisa Marie and Priscilla attended the Golden Globes to support Baz Luhrmann’s biopic of her father, in which Austin Butler won the Best Actor in a Dramatic Motion Picture award for playing Elvis Presley.
When Lisa Marie’s father, the King of Rock and Roll, passed away in 1977, she was only nine years old. Nevertheless, throughout her life, Lisa Marie has honored her father via music. The vocalist, who in the 2000s put out her own rock albums, worked with her father posthumously on duets for some of his biggest successes, such “In the Ghetto” and “Don’t Cry Daddy.”
When the King passed away in 1977, Lisa Marie, who was born in Memphis, Tennessee, together with her grandpa and great-grandmother, were the joint heirs to his inheritance. In 1993, she became the only heir to the $100 million portfolio. She gave Industrial Media the bulk of the estate in 2005, but she kept ownership of Graceland until her passing.
After her parents’ divorced in 1973, Lisa Marie moved to Los Angeles to live with her mother, although she often visited Memphis to visit Elvis at Graceland until his passing. According to Priscilla’s autobiography Elvis & Me, Lisa Marie had a luxurious but strange upbringing. For her fifth birthday, her father gave her a slot machine, and for her eighth birthday, she received a mink coat and a diamond ring. According to Priscilla, when Lisa Marie once told Elvis that she had never seen snow, the two jumped on a jet and decamped to Idaho for 30 minutes before flying home.
The first of Lisa Marie’s four marriages was to musician Danny Keough in 1988; the two were married for six years and had two children, Riley and Benjamin Keough. She later became married to actors Nicolas Cage, Michael Jackson, and guitarist Michael Lockwood, with whom she had twin daughters, Harper and Finley Lockwood.
Riley Keough, Finley Lockwood, and Harper Lockwood are her three children; she also leaves behind her mother Priscilla and half-brother Navarone Garibaldi. Benjamin Keough, her son, passed away in 2020.
